At Mich Sickle Cell Foundation, our programs are designed to identify sickle cell disease early and support children and families through every stage of care. From newborn screening to long-term medication support and research, we work to create lasting impact across underserved communities in Kenya.

Proposed Program Focus
Our six pillars cover the full continuum of sickle cell care — from identifying children early through HemoTypeSC screening, to providing long-term medication, monitoring, and research that strengthens future treatment.
Each pillar is delivered at our pilot sites with trained health workers, family counselors, and on-site laboratory capacity.
Identify & Screen Early
- Free sickle cell screening using HemoTypeSC
- Newborns through 12 months of age
- Children presenting for immunization services
Confirmatory Testing
- Same-day confirmatory testing whenever feasible
Linkage to Care
- Family counseling
- Enrollment into care
- Follow-up support
- Patient tracking and retention
Medication Support
- Hydroxyurea
- Penicillin prophylaxis until age five
- Folic acid
- Antimalarial prophylaxis
Laboratory Monitoring
- CBC / Hemogram analyzer to support hydroxyurea monitoring
Research and Data Collection
- Sickle cell registry
- Program evaluation
